[Handle-globus] [Fwd: Re: [Globus-discuss] Failure installing GT4]

For the sake of completeness, here's the follow-up to the build error I was getting. I was also able to solve it by reinstalling into a deeper directory hierarchy (GLOBUS_LOCATION=/globus-4.0.0/globus).

It turns out that it's bad behavior on the part of ant which is
causing this. The file has a default value for the install location
which is being overridden on the commandline when it is invoked. For
some reason it still checks the validity of the relative path, which
is causing the failure you see.

You can either edit out some of the ".." in the .xml files that are
causing the problem (the error will always tell you which line number
to edit), or put it one level deeper in the directory tree.

My apologies if this has been answered before, but a google search only turns up a couple of years-old questions that never seem to have been resolved...

I finished following the instructions on http://www.globus.org/ toolkit/docs/4.0/admin/docbook/ch04.html for installing Globus, but it failed in step 5 (make install). My GLOBUS_LOCATION variable is /globus-4.0.0. It gets as far as running the buildfile / globus-4.0.0/setup/globus/build-gram-service-gar.xml and outputs the following error:

BUILD FAILED
/globus-4.0.0/setup/globus/build-gram-service-gar.xml:6: The file or path you specified (../../../../install) is invalid relative to / globus-4.0.0/setup/globus

This path obviously goes up beyond my root directory, which is problematic in any case. :) It also outputs similar errors for build-gram-manager-gar.xml and build-rft-setup.xml, and continues with the rest of the script. At the end, it outputs a warning (not an error) that these packages were not set up correctly. The entire output is available upon request.
