The Handle System
Browsers that Support Handles

This is a list of World Wide Web browsers that support handles. We expect this list to grow steadily over the next few months.

Mosaic browser for Unix computers

X Mosaic 2.7b2 and subsequent versions of X Mosaic can resolve handles through a proxy server. You need to set a configuration file.

CNRI has set up a proxy server for public use. Alternatively, you can mount your own proxy server on any Sun computer. Please read the Readme file and follow the instructions.

Grail browser for Unix computers with Python and Tk

CNRI is developing an extensible browser written in Python, a very high level object-oriented language. Version 0.2 of this browser, called Grail, supports handles without the use of a proxy server. Grail 0.2 is available in binary and source form. The binary is available for a number of Unix versions, including Solaris 2.4, SunOS 4.1.3, IRIX 5.3 and Linux. Sources, which require a Python 1.3 interpreter configured with Tcl 7.4 and Tk 4.0, run on almost any Unix system that supports X. In the future, binary versions of Grail for Windows and Macintosh will be made available, pending ports of Tk to those platforms.
