Data Models

The content of digital objects is defined as sequences of bits, but in most practical uses those bits have structure and semantics. Data models (schemas) are used to give semantics to digital objects. The study of this area is just under way. Current thinking is that digital objects should be typed and that schemas can be built up from three base types: sequence-of-bits, digital-object and set-of.
